eComStation 1.2 Athlon 64 beta 2

April 23, 2005 by admin

Beta 2 of eComStation 1.2 for Athlon 64 available in the BetaZone

*Note that eComStation does not utilize the 64 bit extensions of the CPU*

This ISO image intends to test two things:

1) If it is possible to install eCS on an AMD Athlon 64. There have been some
problems reported and it seems to be caused by the fact that quite a large
amount of the Athlon 64 CPU's seem to have difficulty dealing with some 16
bit code.
This ISO has been released to test if it installs well on all Athlon 64 systems.

2) How well applications run on an Athlon 64.

*Changes in beta 2*

This new beta is being released to test:

A) The new Daniela driver 1.7.3 which supports more SATA devices (among others)
B) The new (test) kernel 103a. This new kernel should solve problems on Pentium IV
and loading problems on AMD Athlon64 machines.
C) The new os2ldr that came with the kernel.

There are no other updates in this release.

We are specifically interested in people that experienced problems with Beta 1
and see if these can now install and run Beta 2 correctly.

*Disclaimer*

You should not use this software in a production enviroment and it is provided
without any kind of warranty. Only install this eCS beta on an Athlon 64. It might
fail on regular (Intel or AMD) processors, we have succesfully tested it on a
non-Athlon 64, but no warranties that it will run on such a system.

*Notes*

During the first phase of the installation you will see a message coming
by "printer drivers are being installed". Please ignore this.

If you are installing to a completely empty hard disk and eCS traps
at startup go into the preboot menu (Boot with own values) and under
the Danis506 driver put in the parameter field the switch /!BIOS.

*Reporting bugs*

Please report any bugs to the bugtracker. Do not discuss bugs on public
forums like comp.os.os2.* or news.ecomstation.com newsgroups server.
The reason for this is we need the bug reports in the bugtracker so they
are collected in a central place.
