Getting modem to work with eCS 1.1
June 06, 2003 by Kim Cheung
Tim Sipples posted a very complete and helpful procedure on configuring a PCCARD modem to the VOICE newsletter (http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0603H/vnewsft.htm). This is the best description I have seen so far about the procedures involved.
In addition, for eCS 1.1 users, if you have a win-modem (or USB modem), you might have to either disable the default SIO2K driver, or switch over to the IBM COM driver. For traditional modems, the SIO2K driver continues to out-perform the IBM COM driver by a non-trivial margin. I would recommend that you stay with this driver unless you are experiencing problems. (Note that if you enable SIO2K related traps on shutdown, you should try enabling the UNBHSIO.SYS driver that's REMed out in your config.sys).
