DFSee version 4.00 released
For those of you that don't know DFSee yet, DFSee is an FDISK,display, analysis and recovery tool for disks and filesystems.
Because of the targeted use for DFSee it is a command-line and text-only utility (no GUI). At the moment an OS/2, Win-NT and DOS version exist.
Version 4.00 of the DFSee program was released on 18-07-2001. This is the first version of DFSee that is distributed as SHAREWARE
DFSee can still be downloaded from my web-site, but after a short evaluation, and for all real use you are required to get a registration.
They can be purchased from the Mensys online shop for about US $17.
Details can be found at: http://www.fsys.demon.nl/dfsee.htm
Version 4.00 only has minor functional updates on the previous
freeware version (3.42 being the last one).
Several improvements are planned for upcomming 4.xx releases:
- Better user-interface, adding menus and dialogs (but still text-based)
- More complete LVM support, allowing creation of LVM compatible partitions
- More supprt for the JFS filesystem as used in eComStation and WsEB
- Copy and move of whole partitions on the same or different disk
Registering DFSee will give you the right to use all 4.xx versions
and get support plus a reasonable amount of assistance by email.
But even more important, it enables further development of the DFSee program.
Without any funding like this, I cannot afford to give support and develop
DFSee much further.
Depending on interest in DFSee (registrations sold) more functionality
could be included in upcoming versions, like resizing of partitions.
I would very much like to hear about experiences you have with
DFSee, either positive or negative. Contact: dfsee@fsys.demon.nl
